JOINT EXHIBITION

July 15, 2010

////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The joint exhibition Pavillions in the Retiro garden of Madrid, presents a series of designs by last year students of the school of architecture, belonging to the Universidad Europea de Madrid. The course was directed by the teachers Francisco Domouso, Lorenzo Fernandez - Ordoñez, Juan Jose Mateos and Enrique Seco during the 2009 - 2010 term.

The projects exhibited propose the investigation of the possibilities allowed by the the new digital technologies as appplied to design, fabrication, and building process, all within the constraints of a closed material system. The materialization of the different ideas stems also from an interdisciplinar attitude, where the integration of both building and environmental engineerings is fundamental to the optimization of each proposal.

The digital process common to all stages of the design process, makes the integration of conditions as diverse as tensional state, material constants or solar and shading patterns fluid, giving way to a kind of digital morphogenesis.

The resultiing designs present us with an elocuent contrast with the existing pavillions in the Retiro garden. Not only ground, but water and air also offer a building base for the products of the new design and material technologies. The resulting forms, independant from the traditional architectural codes, result in an extremely natural and intense relationship with the garden. The intimate liason between material and form seems to become one with the organic nature of the garden itself.
